On Friday, 20th September 2024, a devastating fire broke out at the Akany Avoko Bevalala boys’ centre (AAB).
This centre is home to 35 vulnerable boys, aged 10-18, who are placed with Akany Avoko for their protection, care, and education. The cause of the fire is currently under thorough investigation. Fortunately, the boys were at school when the fire started, and thanks to the quick actions of centre staff and local authorities, the fire was contained and extinguished.
However, the damage is extensive:
- All of the boys' dormitories have been completely destroyed, including the roof, electrical systems, and solar panels.
-
15 bunk beds and 18 mattresses have been lost.
-
80% of the boys’ clothing and all their school supplies have been destroyed.
- Personal belongings of the boys have also been lost.
Immediate Response:
Money for Madagascar urgently need your help to provide:
- Safe temporary accommodation until the dormitory can be rebuilt.
- Clothing and school supplies to ensure the boys can continue their education and maintain a sense of normality during this challenging time.
