The Revd Dyfrig Rees has been elected as General Secretary of the Union of Welsh Independent Churches. This follows a ballot amongst the Union’s 400 churches and a number of personal members.
A native of Bancffosfelen, Carmarthenshire the Revd Rees is currently a minister at Bridgend. He succeeds the Revd Dr Geraint Tudur, who retires in September after 12 years in the post.
Speaking after the result was announced, the Revd Dyfrig Rees said that he personally faced an exciting and challenging time. Christians in Wales must also raise to the challenge of coping with great changes, he said. For instance, religious buildings should be made available for community use, as well as being meeting places for the local faith community. That could lead to a new and exciting era for Christian testimony in many communities, he maintained.
