Ratifying the cut in UK Overseas Aid is a death sentence for countless people in countries suffering extreme poverty or conflict, says the President of the Union of Welsh Independent Churches – which had lobbied the government to change its mind.
“It’s disgraceful that the UK government has broken its commitment to maintain Aid at 0.7% of GDP,” said the Revd Beti-Wyn James. “It’ll have a devastating effect on countries like Yemen, which is suffering the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis, with millions on the brink of famine.
“It’s been widely reported that the £4b. cut in Aid is being diverted to be spent on defence. That’s totally immoral.”
