Directive for Churches and their Ministers

Posted on

Warm wishes from Tŷ John Penri.

In lieu of the news about the Coronavirus and following the latest directive given by the UK and Welsh governments regarding the obstruction of the spread, the Union urges churches:

  1. Not to organise any public meetings or allow any meeting to be held within their buildings until information is given to the contrary.

In the case of funeral services or weddings, strictly private arrangements for close family only should be put in place. If this arrangement should happen in the chapel, sufficient precautions must be put in place to disinfect the chapel before, and after the service.

All baptisms should be postponed.

  1. To create and put in place a pastoral plan that would ensure appropriate contact with all church members, by phone, email and so on; to ensure special care for the old and vulnerable and to be good neighbours within their communities.

Any direct physical contact should be avoided with others, unless totally necessary.

  1. To urge their members to look for spiritual sustenance through the resources found in Y Tyst and through the Union website and the Union social media and the like.

Union Annual Meetings, Llandeilo, 25–27 June, 2020

As we do not know when this period linked to the virus will come to an end, the Union has decided to postpone the annual meetings, for the safety of its churches, its members and its workforce.

The hope is that we will be able to find a suitable date later in the year for it to go ahead. More details will follow in due course.

With warm wishes and blessings to you over this difficult and challenging period.

Yours sincerely,

Dyfrig Rees

General Secretary
